Sustainable Water Supply (SWS)

Project Description

In the Matutuine community, located in the south of Mozambique, the water demand depends on natural water sources that are often not secure. Consequently, the population faces the everyday water problem of drinking unsafe and unhealthy water. From January 2022 Grino's stand-alone solution provides water for 3000 communities of Matutuine (2.000 direct and 1.000 indirect). It will allow 500 students at the Hidane primary school to receive clean water for free and 1.500 people to purchase clean water at an affordable price, covering the long-term maintenance costs. Furthermore, the project will positively impact not only the health but also the education of the children by saving them the time spent daily to source drinking water as well as providing multiple health and sustainability teaching supported via educational materials.

The required solar energy and water purification solution is funded by the EDP's Access to Energy Fund (A2E).
